Hello! Detailed below are answers to our most frequently asked questions.
Unlike traditional auctions or eBay, Rasmus is a completely different type of online-auction site. We are a little bit traditional (with previews and pickups), a little bit eBay (online bidding), and something altogether different (event based, photo catalogs and credit card only payments)
Even if you’re familiar with our auctions, take a look around, you will likely find information about our process, policies or techniques which will help you better navigate the site and have the best bidding experience possible.
If you need additional assistance, our customer service team will be more than happy to assist you.
GENERAL FAQs
Traditional auctions are generally conducted on-site and in place at the asset location. Bidders are required to arrive early for an inspection and must remain onsite for the duration of the event while items are sold one at a time. Removal is usually the sale day, the bidder may be required to come back to pickup their items.
Rasmus events begin bidding weeks in advance of the event closing. Most Rasmus auctions feature a preview or open house for inspection one or two days prior to the conclusion of the sale. Bidders can take their time to become familiar with the catalog, bid interactively or use the MaxBid which allows the system to bid on your behalf up to your set amount.
With a Rasmus event, you can participate on your schedule and at your pace, from the comfort of your home or office.
EBay type auctions feature one item sold to one buyer. Each transaction is independent of each other. Both the Seller and the Bidder have to work hard to maintain communication, financial transactions, shipping arrangements and feedback to assure a successful sale. Rasmus auctions are special events which sell many items to many buyers. The average auction features several hundred to several thousands of items for sale. You can outfit your entire business with one inspection, one sales receipt, one payment and one pickup.
Rasmus notifies bidders of auctions using our weekly e-newsletter and special short-notice announcements. Our newsletter is opt-in only, and we promise never to share your email or information. If at any time you would like to opt-out, simply click remove at the bottom of the newsletter. The Rasmus newsletter is the best way to learn about late breaking, short notice opportunities and online events.
The final price is determined by many factors including quality, condition, quantity, location, marketing time, terms and schedule for removal. As with most auctions, the bidders who are familiar with the items and take the time to attend the inspection get the best deals. Almost every item starts at zero or $1.00 and sells to the highest bidder.
Yes, occasionally a Landlord or incoming tenant will want to make a bulk offer. All reasonable offers are considered and must be made by email. If an offer is accepted certified funds for the total purchase price plus tax and buyers premium must be on deposit at least 48 hours before the posted closing time. Generally, bulk bids are always higher than the anticipated sum of the individual bids, and as a result, are the exception.

Always bid on the item description. Only use the photographs as a guide. For demonstration purposes, equipment may be joined and photographed together. Do not assume a lot consists of more than one item simply because they are connected or pictured together. You are bidding on the item as described in the catalog. For instance, a supply cabinet does not include supplies unless specified. Please take advantage of the onsite inspection and read the descriptions.
The catalog is fully searchable. Please experiment with the category and search boxes to view the groups of items you are interested in. Once the items are presented on the page, you can easily bid on groups of items.

BIDDING STRATEGIES
You have heard the slogan “an educated consumer is our best customer?” The same is true for online only auctions. Please take the time to attend the preview. Bidders who fully appreciate the quality and condition of the items get the best deals. We get some very nice items to sell, and we want you to get a great deal!
Many of our bidders begin bidding actively as items are closing. Internet only auctions can be more exciting than live auctions, because 3-15 items are closing simultaneously. However, to assure you do not get caught up in the frenzy of last minute bidding, we strongly recommend that you consider using the MaxBid feature. Just enter your maximum price. No matter how many items are closing, MaxBid will bid on your behalf - using only what it needs to keep you the 'winner'.
The majority of our bidders do not attend the preview. Study the photos (click the picture, as many items have multiple photos), read the descriptions and make note of the model numbers. If it looks good in the photo, it probably looks good in person. While we do not warrant items, we do take care to accurately describe items. Remember, the responsibility to inspect the items is on the bidder.
Yes, many bidders will increase their own bid to place it out of reach of other bidders.
